Excelsior Classical Academy defeats Voyager Academy
ECA took down Voyager Academy 5-4 on Friday.
A ground out by Charlie Glenn put Voyager on the board in the top of the first. Voyager added one run in the second as Troy Cuellar walked, making the score 2-0.
ECA captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the second when Miles Derby hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Sidney Schreiber singled, scoring one run and JonLuke Harper singled, scoring two runs. ECA added one run in the third after Hamilton Malott singled.
Harper earned the win for ECA. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and two runs over three and one-third innings, striking out one and walking five. Schreiber pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for ECA. The reliever surrendered three hits and two runs (one earner) while striking out one and walking two. Dylan Haswell began the game for Voyager. The righty surrendered three hits and four runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking five.
Harper drove the middle of the lineup, leading ECA with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-3 on the day. ECA had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Malott and Collin Mottola led the team with two bases on balls each.
Glenn led Voyager with two hits in four at bats. Cuellar paced Voyager with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Voyager was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Bentleigh Vollers had the mostt chances in the field with five.
Excelsior plays at home on Monday against Eno River Academy.
